I don't think I ever worked harder, for a shorter period of time, on a painting. But this painting just fit together from the beginning. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted from a photo shoot. With the help of a great model we captured exactly what I wanted in a short period of time. Drawing with chalk on black gesso proved to be no problem at all and in fact I loved it. And the paint just flowed onto the canvas exactly as I wanted. My glazing experiment using Alizarin Crimson on the left side and Ultramarine Blue on the right worked as planned, and I couldn't be happier with the final painting.
The only hard thing was finding a title. The model's boyfriend said it looked like a Pink Floyd album cover. The theme of the photo shoot was the 1970's, and since "Dark Side" was the preeminent rock album of the 70's, the title was obvious as the blue paint on the black canvas..."Blue Prism".
The painting is very large, 40" x 30", and is framed...$1,900.
