"All In Vain" by Shep is drawn.

It's taken a while but my painting of the Civil War Colonel is drawn and actually has a name "All In Vain".  I took the drawing to my Uncle Jack, who is the model, a local historian, and owner of the authentic Civil War uniform, for his guidance in naming the painting.  He took one look and said "All in vain".  That's all it took, the painting was named.  Jack said one of his favorite movies was "Gone With the Wind" and one of the most memorable line was the one by Rhett Butler about why the south couldn't win.  I looked it up and here it is:  “To secede from the Union and set up another government would cause war. If you go to war with the United States, you will never conquer her, as she has the money and the men. If she does not whip you by guns, powder, and steel, she will starve you to death. It will take the flower of the country-the young men.”

Civil war Trivia:  When did the Civil War end?

Answer:  May 13, 1865.  I know everyone knows that Robert E. Lee, I'm proud to call my relative, signed the surrender papers on April 8, 1865, but the word took over 5 weeks to reach Texas.  The last battle of the Civil War was at Palmito Ranch in Texas.  So I used a battlefield setting for the background of the painting, a low flat Rio Grande plain with a tree line on a dark overcast day.  Oh, the South won the Battle of Palmito, but it was "All In Vain".
